District Visual Manager

MUJI U.S.A. LIMITED is actively seeking a District Visual Manager to join our New York Corporate location. Purpose

Reporting to the Regional Visual Merchandiser, the District Visual Manager is responsible for driving visual merchandising excellence, commercial execution, and brand consistency across an assigned district. This role partners closely with Regional Managers, Store Managers, Visual Managers, and Support Office teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience while maximizing sales opportunities through effective visual merchandising.

The District Visual Manager provides strategic leadership, coaching, and hands-on support to ensure all stores consistently execute MUJI's global visual standards. Through regular store visits, performance analysis, talent development, and collaboration across functions, this role plays a key part in strengthening operational excellence and supporting the continued growth of the business. The position requires frequent travel throughout the assigned district and additional travel to support new store openings, remodels, and special projects as required.

Role and Responsibilities

Visual Merchandising Leadership

  • Execute the company's visual merchandising strategy across the assigned district while maintaining MUJI's global brand standards.
  • Partner with the Regional Visual Merchandiser to implement seasonal campaigns, merchandising initiatives, and new product launches.
  • Ensure consistent execution of all visual merchandising standards across every store.
  • Identify opportunities to improve visual presentation while supporting commercial performance and customer experience.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and recommend improvements where appropriate. 

Store Support & Coaching

  • Coach, train, and develop Store Managers, Visual Managers, and store teams on visual merchandising standards and execution.
  • Conduct regular store visits to evaluate visual presentation, commercial execution, and brand consistency.
  • Provide immediate coaching and action plans following each visit.
  • Identify development opportunities and create follow-up plans to improve execution.
  • Support stores during floorsets, seasonal transitions, inventory changes, and merchandising resets.
  • Assist stores with problem solving and provide timely solutions to visual merchandising challenges. 

Commercial Execution

  • Partner with Regional Managers and Store Managers to maximize sales through effective visual merchandising.
  • Analyze sales trends, sell-through, customer shopping patterns, and inventory levels to improve product presentation.
  • Ensure merchandise placement supports customer flow and drives commercial results.
  • Recommend merchandising adjustments based on business performance and local opportunities.
  • Support allocation and presentation strategies for new merchandise and seasonal assortments.

 Store Standards & Customer Experience

  • Ensure every store consistently delivers a clean, organized, and inspiring shopping environment.
  • Maintain high standards for visual presentation, fixtures, signage, lighting, and product displays.
  • Ensure stores reflect MUJI's brand image and create a simple, functional, and welcoming customer experience.
  • Identify maintenance or presentation concerns and partner with store leadership to resolve them promptly.
  • Promote consistency across all stores within the district.

 Talent Development

  • Develop the visual merchandising capabilities of store leadership through coaching and mentoring.
  • Identify high-potential talent and support succession planning within the district.
  • Conduct regular visual merchandising training sessions and workshops.
  • Share best practices across stores to improve overall execution.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.

 Performance Management

  • Monitor district performance related to visual merchandising execution.
  • Review sales performance, visual audit results, customer feedback, and operational standards.
  • Utilize reporting and analytics to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Develop action plans to improve execution and business performance.
  • Conduct regular visual recaps and communicate priorities with Regional Managers and Support Office partners.

 Cross Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Retail Operations, Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Store Development teams.
  • Support new store openings, remodels, relocations, and special projects.
  • Ensure visual merchandising initiatives are successfully implemented across all stores.
  • Communicate field feedback to Support Office to improve future merchandising initiatives. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of retail visual merchandising leadership experience.
  • Multi-unit retail experience preferred.
  • Experience within specialty retail, lifestyle, or premium retail environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of visual merchandising principles and commercial retailing.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret business reports and sales trends.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel approximately 60-80% within the assigned district and additional travel as business needs require.

Starting Rate: $70,000-$78,000 per year

Work Schedule: Full time associates are expected to have a 5-day availability per week, including at least one weekend day
